Carry On Up the Khyber - Rare Behind the Scenes Photos

Carry On Up the Khyber has long been regarded as one of the greatest of all the Carry On films and indeed one of the finest British comedy movies of all-time. It also happens to be one of my own personal favourite Carry Ons. Needless to say I was absolutely delighted to recently come across some very rarely seen behind the scenes photographs taken during the making of the film which I would like to share with you here.

I've included a video of the original theatrical trailer for Carry On Up the Khyber at the end too.

Sid remains in character as Sir Sidney Ruff-Diamond off-camera. It must be all of the medals!

A superb shot of Sid James and Joan Sims filming in front of blue screen technology for the parade scene.

Director Gerald Thomas hasn't quite got the crease in his trouser leg right so enlists Sid to lend a hand. Joan Sims just looks bemused by it all!

Filming the famous polo scene. "He didn't 'alf crack that one!"

It was during the filming of the polo scene that Sid James and Joan Sims welcomed a very special guest to the set. Dick Van Dyke popped over to say hello while taking a break from filming Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

A Carry On star's work is never done. Sid, Joan Sims, Julian Holloway, Peter Butterworth and Charles Hawtrey promote Carry On Doctor while filming Up the Khyber.

There is always time for a cup of tea, even when Queen Victoria is looking down at you.

A magnificent shot of Sid and Joan taken during the climactic battle scene. The building behind is Heatherden Hall at Pinewood Studios.
